Dad was finally discharged from the hospital on Friday, December 5th at 7 p.m., but was back in the ER the morning of Sunday, December 7th with some complications. It was looking like another major surgery would be needed, but the doctors said that two surgeons would be needed to complete the surgery and that Dad would not make it through the surgery. Instead, he will need to have a minor procedure completed once per month in order to avoid having the complications again. Not fun, but do-able. And this all happened because Dad's surgeon was not able to complete the surgery with some more stitches due to Dad being so high risk and unstable at the time. He's home and recovering. He's quite frail and feeling every bit of cold in his 5' 11" 120 lb. body. He lost 40 pounds through this entire ordeal, but has already gained back 3 pounds in his first week home. Now that he is clear of C. Diff and off of the Flagyl, his appetite has returned, praise God.
As for the rest of us, we are just now starting to get into the Christmas spirit and ready for the special day. I'm working on Christmas cards this week, buying a few more things, and then I'll need to wrap presents yet.
This morning Evan was able to wipe his butt all by himself, not a small feat given his physical challenges and delays. Of course he plugged the toilet, but I was thrilled with his other accomplishment and praised him for it. Naturally, he wondered if he could have a baby sister now…lol! He will make a good babysitter and a great dad one day!
